悔不當(dāng)初，指后悔不在當(dāng)初采取另一種行動(dòng)。出自唐代薛昭緯《謝銀工》詩(shī)：“早知文字多辛苦，悔不當(dāng)初學(xué)冶銀。”

當(dāng)我們談到現(xiàn)在后悔的事，wish和if only都跟過(guò)去一般時(shí)。過(guò)去時(shí)強(qiáng)調(diào)我們談?wù)摰氖遣徽鎸?shí)的事情。

?I wish I hadn’t eaten all that chocolate. I feel sick.

?If only I’d known you were coming.

當(dāng)談?wù)撨^(guò)去后悔的事，wish和if only都跟過(guò)去完成時(shí)。

Wish/if only and would

eg.

?I wish you wouldn’t borrow my clothes without asking.

?I wish it would rain. The garden really needs some water.

?I wish you’d give up smoking. it’s really bad for you.
NB We can only use wish + would to talk about things we can’t change.
